Ski Tip Lodge began its life in the early 1860s as a stage coach stop for miner's heading over the Argentine and Guanella Passes. As the mining industry faded, the property fell into disrepair. In the early 1930s, Max and Edna Dercum purchased the property, envisioning a family homestead in the Snake River Valley.
While serving as their family home, Ski Tip Lodge came into being following Max and Edna's role in opening Arapahoe Basin ski area. With lodging options limited in Summit County during the time, Max and Edna rearranged their family home and created two separate bunk rooms, dubbing themselves Ski Tip Lodge.
Years later, Max and Edna fulfilled their dream of developing the property visible from their homestead - creating Keystone Resort and a new chapter in Summit County's history.
