Maximize Your High Alpine Adventure: Tips for Venturing Into Keystone's Bergman Bowl

Embarking on a high alpine adventure can be both inspiring and intimidating. Never fear! This guide is here to give you all the tips and tricks you need to stay warm, stay safe, and stay amazed by never-ending views of the Tenmile Range and beyond.

Stay Toasty and Dry!

Above treeline, weather can be more extreme and change quickly and without warning. Typically, all aspects of weather are amplified. If it is windy and cold at the base area, expect stronger winds and 10-15º colder at the top of the world in Bergman Bowl. If it is bright and sunny below, you can bet on strong sunshine with no shade in sight.

  • Layering is Key: Dress in moisture-wicking base layers to keep sweat away from the skin, followed by insulating layers for warmth and a waterproof outer layer to stay dry and protect against wind.

  • Don't Forget the Extremities: Wear insulated and waterproof gloves (or even better, mittens!) and wool ski socks.

  • Eye of the Tiger: Invest in quality goggles to shield your eyes from wind and snow with the correct lenses for conditions. Bergman Bowl sees intense sun (don’t forget sunscreen!) and, on the other end of the spectrum, whiteout conditions that can make it difficult to see your next turn. Know what you need before you head up the chairlift!

Be Prepared for Variable Conditions:

  • Check Trail and Terrain Status: Regularly monitor the resort's lift and trail status updates for any closures or changes, and be aware of the weather forecast to anticipate changing conditions throughout the day.

  • Wide Open Bowls: Bergman Bowl offers both groomed and natural terrain experiences. Groomers are a great place to start, and if you feel like leveling up you can easily pop into the bowl to experience flowy, fun bowl skiing on natural snow. Choose your own adventure!

  • Plan Ahead: Not sure which trail fits you or your family? Just ask! Our patrol team is awesome and can answer any questions you might have about terrain or conditions. Pop into their brand new sustainable, off-the-grid hut at the top of Bergman Express and make a plan for your safest and most hooting and hollering route down!

Bring a Camera:

  • Capture Snowcapped Peaks: Pack a waterproof camera or be sure to have your smartphone charged up and in a zippered pocket. You do not want to miss the best views in Summit County! Pro tip: See how many of the surrounding peaks you can name, and if you can point out the namesake peaks of each new trail in Bergman Bowl.

  • Share the Experience: Bring your friends and family so they can experience the magic of high alpine views, too! Or, at least send them photos to inspire FOMO.

With a little bit of preparation, you'll be ready to take on the challenge of skiing high above the trees. Embrace the thrill, plan wisely, and get ready to adventure to new heights!
